THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA: 1925 Silent Film With Live Orchestra
Experience the magic of the silver screen and the power of live music in this one-of-a-kind event! Join us for a special screening of the iconic 1925 film, The Phantom of the Opera, accompanied by a live performance from The Curse of the Vampire Orchestra with Composer/Conducter Philip Shorey.
The Phantom of the Opera (1925)
On Valentine’s weekend, Granada Theater and Coalition Productions will host multiple showings of the 1925 classic silent film The Phantom of the Opera, accompanied by the Curse of the Vampire Orchestra. This unique production was created by Minneapolis composer, Philip Shorey, and features a local symphony and choral musicians mixed with modern electronic music and theatrical effects. Shorey has been performing his original works to popular silent films (Nosferatu & The Kid), giving them new life for modern audiences across Europe and North America. Now, he is ready to reveal his world premiere of The Phantom of the Opera in his hometown. The Phantom of the Opera is most widely known for the Broadway musical, but long before that, French author Gaston Leroux wrote a novel in 1909. The silent film is the original adaptation of the novel that inspired the hit Broadway musical.
Experience a romantic evening with the original adaptation of this timeless classic. With hosting The Phantom of the Opera, Granada Theater is returning to its nostalgic past as an atmospheric movie theater built in 1928.
General admission starts at $25 a seat. Limited theater dining is available for each show, with reservations available pre and post-show in the Uptown Lobby. Visit granadampls.com for details. For more information on the orchestra, visit www.curseofthevampire.com.
It was a beautiful concert, and a perfect way to enjoy an evening after a hectic workweek!
